"As
the father of a two year old, it is refreshing to find a story that
satisfies both my daughter and I. Although it's geared toward a
slightly older age group, my daughter loves it. She enjoys naming the
characters and the presence of a kitten goes a long way in grabbing the
toddler reader. I like the compelling story of rebirth, discovering
inner beauty, and reinventing oneself with age. The story does not, as
children's books often do, beat you over the head with it's positive
themes. It simply teaches children, through example, the joy of helping
elderly friends and that they can be contributing members of society.
It also shows children the immense gratification volunteering can
bring."

“This is a sensitively told story of lost and found acceptance and
self-esteem through not only usefulness, but through the love and
acceptance of others. Underscored with soft but rich illustrations,
this story engages the reader drawing one back again and again. A
beautifully told story for all generations.”

“This book is a classic if I ever read one! . . . What a wonderful
book! Effie doesn’t know just how wonderful she can be until Amanda
helps Effie find her way and feel as lovely as ever.”

“In a time when less and less attention is given to understanding the
fount of wisdom offered by the elderly and more and more is paid to
what is lacking in the world of education, Effie's Image offers hope
and appreciation in both areas. While this small book is specifically
geared toward 4-8 year-old children, adults, young adults and teens
will find this story delightful and a timeless tale that can be kept
for future generations to enjoy! This is a collection to be enjoyed by
those readers who truly appreciate writing by a master of the craft!"

“Do you want your child to learn the worth of volunteering? This would
be the book I would choose . . . After I read this story to my two
boys, they could relate this story to their own grandmother who has
recently retired only to find herself back at work. They talked about
helping others and volunteering. This book is definitely on my
recommend list to children.”
