The COOKING WITH THE TRAITS: A RECIPE FOR WRITING poster is the creation of author N. L. Sharp and illustrator Jayne Macholan. Before students can understand how each of THE SIX TRAITS relate to the process of writing, they must first be made aware of what these words mean in their broader sense. The comparison of writing to cooking provides a useful vehicle to help students make this connection.

The back of the poster features an in depth explanation of this analogy. Sharp also provides teachers with a lesson plan for "Cooking Up a Personal Narrative" which details one specific "recipe" for the integration of The Six Traits into the writing process, using the Personal Narrative as the writing mode.

COOKING WITH THE TRAITS measures 17" x 22", and is printed on 100# glossy stock paper.
